Damages and accidents

Vehistra distinguishes between a damage and an accident. A damage is the harm itself; an accident is the event with everything that legally belongs to it.

Reporting a damage

Recorded are description, time and:

  • priority – how urgent the repair is
  • status – open, in progress or closed
  • area – where on the vehicle the damage is
  • cost, as soon as it is known
  • photos and assessments as documents

A damage always belongs to a vehicle and stays visible in its record – also after it is closed.

Recording an accident

An accident is recorded by type of event:

| Type | | -------------------------------- | | Accident involving a third party | | Accident without a third party | | Parking damage, party unknown | | Animal collision | | Glass breakage | | Theft or break-in | | Vandalism |

Added to that are involved parties, witnesses and – if the police attended – station and file number.

From the record an accident report as PDF can be produced and handed to the insurer or the assessor.

The usual flow

  1. Report the damage or accident, with photos.
  2. Create a workshop order.
  3. Add cost and status, attach the invoices.
  4. Close the case. It stays in the vehicle history.

Every step stays traceable on its own. The link between damage, accident, workshop order and cost is not lost along the way.

Permissions

Reporting, editing and closing are separate permissions. In the default role a member of staff may report damages but not close them – see Users and permissions.
